Hire

At Brent Artists’ Resource there are three spaces separately for hire, The Gallery, The Wall space, and The Glass Cabinet.

The Gallery is a white walled room measuring around 10m x 6m with a ceiling height of 3m.  It has excellent controllable lighting and a custom made hanging system.  Access is by two double doors, leading off the main concourse of the Willesden Green Library Centre.  The Centre also houses the Brent Museum, a cinema a number of municipal public offices as well as the main Brent Library, hence there are very many visitors on a daily basis.  It is estimated that around 65,000 pass through the concourse every month, and the Gallery has on average around 1000 visitors per show. The Gallery is generally open from 2pm till 6pm daily, including weekends.

Gallery Plan

The Wallspace occupies the major wall of the main concourse and is open to view from all visitors to the Centre. It is 14 metres long and around 3 metres high, with a white surface (please note the Wall Space can only display artworks up to 15cm deep and the power points cannot be covered – the powerpoints are shown in the picture below). The Centre is open from 10am to 11pm allowing an exhibition to be seen by the public between these times. Because of the concourse’s open aspect, all artwork needs to have mirror plates attached for securing to the wall.  However the Wallspace is invigilated by two security guards continuously during the hours of opening, so artworks are quite secure.

The Glass Cabinet is just that, a glass cabinet in which small three dimensional artworks (ceramics, jewelry, sculptures and so on) may be exhibited and offered for sale. It measures 185cm high, 100cm wide and 45cm deep, and is well lit with internal hidden lighting.  It stands in the main concourse outside the Gallery and is therefore seen by the public within the hours the Centre is open.

How to Exhibit at BAR

There are two routes to exhibiting at BAR

The first is to become a BAR member.  This gives you the opportunity to exhibit at the open exhibitions (two to three times a year), as well as receive invitations to previews, gallery talks and workshops, information on exhibitions and events, opportunities and calls for project participation. Your membership card also entitles you to discounts at participating shops and galleries. Membership also provides opportunities to network, volunteer and support.  A link can be made from this site to your website.  Please refer to the page Join for more information on becoming involved as member.

The second is to hire the Gallery, Wallspace and/or The Glass Cabinet on a 4 weekly basis for a group or solo show independent of BAR.  Past exhibitors have included artists from Artangel, London Independent Photography, Brent Young Gifted and Talented, Goldsmith College and Royal College of Art.

How to Apply

To be considered for the exhibition space at The Gallery and/or The Wall send a submission to the Gallery Coordinator at the address shown below.  Your submission must include the following:

  • 5 jpegs (max 150K per image) via email (preferred) or CD of your works, or five good quality photographs via post
  • Indicate titles, dimension, medium and price
  • Indicate which months you prefer.
  • Artist statement of up to 200 words
  • A full C.V.

BAR considers all forms of work including 2D, 3D, video, installation, photography, and applied arts. The artist is responsible for organising the private view party and for invigilating the space, although the co-ordinator can offer to do so for three days a week and some volunteers might help.

A non-refundable service fee is charged to exhibit at The Gallery. This rate is £800 for a four-week show with no commission taken. If you are interested in sharing the hire of The Gallery, we may be able to arrange a show with other artists.

Also a 10m wall in the main hall can be hired for £300 for 4 weeks and the Glass Cabinet for £75 for 4 weeks.
